One of the perks of this job is that I get to check out a whole bunch of low carb and keto cookbooks. And this one, by Amanda Hughes of WickedStuffed.com, is a winner!
Amanda outlines the basics of Ketogenic dieting in easy-to-understand terms. She provides lists of foods to enjoy versus what to avoid, and offers tips on making this lifestyle work and saving money. But the heart of the book is, naturally, the recipes.
Just like on her blog, Amanda features tons of simple-to-create, real-food recipes. Full nutritional info is provided for each and there is plenty to pick from–ranging from dinner to desserts, with everything, including sauces and dips, thrown in. I’m looking forward to giving the Buffalo Cauliflower and Chicken and Spinach Ricotta Crêpes a go, myself. Mmmmm!
The only complaint I know I’m going to hear about this book is regarding pictures. The photos included are very nice and utterly appealing–but they’re used to illustration the sections of the book, and not provided for each recipe. So if you are emotionally attached to having pictures of each dish, pass this one by.
On the other hand, if you’re happy to use your imagination a bit, there are a lot of simple, real-food, Keto-friendly recipes here. This book would make a lovely addition to any low carber’s kitchen.
